Last night I saw Company at Silver Spring Stage, a surprisingly tucked-away community theater located underneath the CVS in Four Corners. It’s one of those places that feels like a secret—no one in my social circle seems to know it exists—but the full house last night proved otherwise. Clearly, people know where to find good theater.

Company is a musical about relationships, independence, and what it means to build a life surrounded by other people. Through a series of vignettes centered around the main character and their friends, the show explores marriage, dating, and self-reflection with humor, warmth, and a dose of honesty. Even though this was my first time seeing the show, I found it engaging and thought-provoking.

The performers were all really good—strong voices, great timing, and solid chemistry across the board. The pacing of the show was just right: it kept moving, held my interest throughout, and never felt too long or too rushed. The set was fairly minimal, but it worked well for both the stage and the intimate venue. The characters themselves were so dynamic that they didn’t need elaborate backdrops to bring the story to life.

I’d encourage anyone interested in historically important musicals to see Company, and I’d also recommend checking out Silver Spring Stage. It’s a nonprofit theater supported by the Maryland State Arts Council and puts on a full season of shows. If you’re in the area and enjoy live theater, this is a place worth supporting.
